Deep Chemical Face Peeling

Deep Chemical Face Peeling is certainly not a new procedure. It has in fact, been traced to Ancient Egyptian times. Early face peeling for skin rejuvenation included the use of acids, poultices from mineral and plant substances, and direct irritants such as sandpaper like substances to produce the exfoliation and the subsequent regeneration of skin tissue.

Modern day, full face, deep chemical peels have been traced to the work of Cora Galenti. Galenti is credited with developing the procedure and successfully performing it in Hollywood in the late 40's 50's and early 60's. This is documented in published literature.

Since the early 60's there has been much scientific evaluation of this process beginning with the work of Dr., Adolph Brown in Los Angeles and Dr. Baker and Dr. Gordon of the University of Miami. Recent articles by Medical Professionals note that the Galenti method maintains to this day its position as the most effective technique of its type for facial rejuvenation.

The majority of patients who benefit from a deep chemical peel have a long history of sun abuse. Fine and deep facial lines, pigmentation abnormalities, leathery texture and flaccidness are common characteristics effectively addressed. Patients that exhibit acne scarring are also successfully treated with the Galenti peel. The profound and long lasting effect of this particular peel is a result of the greater depth of tissue exfoliation and the resultant formation of a new stratified collagen layer.

The Galenti Deep Peel is performed in a hospital surgical facility. Patients receive Local anesthesia and medication for sedation. The peel solution is painted on carefully to facial units with semi dry cotton tip applicators. Immediately, thereafter adhesive tapes are skillfully applied to the treated areas and form a mask like covering. This mask allows for the even penetration of the peel formula. This process is accomplished in a time span of one hour and thirty minutes. After the application of the peel formula and tape mask, the patient remains in a clinic for the following 24 hours and then retires to their home or a selected recovery center.

The adhesive tape mask remains on the face for 48 hours. After that time lapse, the attending physician removes the mask and applies an antiseptic powder over the treated areas. For the next six days the patient periodically applies this powder to their face. This antiseptic powder combines with the secretions that occur on the treated areas and forms a crust like mask. Below this mask new skin cells are developing. On the eighth day of the treatment the physician applies an antiseptic cream over the powder mask. This cream remains on the face for the following 24 hours slowly softening the crust like powder mask.. After 24 hours the remaining powder mask is removed by cleansing oils and astringent lotions. It is at this point, when the face is clear of all the remnants of the powder mask, the patient observes the remarkable change that has occurred in her or his appearance.

Clinical and histological effects of the Galenti Deep Peel are extraordinary long lasting. After 10 to 15 years, the contrast with the unpeeled skin is striking.
